// Psychological counseling and psychotherapy
What is psychological counseling?
Advice is a form of psychological help that allows people to change how they feel, think and behave in order to effectively solve problems and difficulties in emotional experience, behavior and relationships with others and live better, happier, more satisfied. Psychological counseling is the process of determining the relationship between counselor and client, the repertoire of interventions which counselor applies and goals of counseling.
Advisor fosters empathic understanding of the client’s problems, not condemning, and believing in the client’s ability to help and support with finding and implementing solutions to their problems. The interventions which are applied in psychological counseling and psychotherapy depend on the theoretical orientation of the counselor and psychotherapist: psychoanalytic interventions, gestalt interventions, cognitive-behavioral interventions, rational-emotive behavioral interventions. Some psychotherapists and counselors use the methods and interventions derived from a variety of therapeutic modalities and for them it is said that they are eclectic-minded.
The objectives of counseling depend on the client’s needs. The objectives of counseling most often eliminate or relieve the symptoms of psychological disorders, overcoming crises, problems and difficulties. Targets may relate to the personal growth and development, such as counseling for career development and coaching. Counseling can be individual or group, family or in pairs, depending on the issue.
